This page sets out the working definitions and conditions we apply when reviewing gear for operators who manage crews, vehicles, and compliance across multiple sites. The intent is to remove ambiguity before you commit to a purchase order.
When we state that a coverall is flame-resistant or a vest meets high-visibility standards, we refer to the specific test method cited in the review. Ratings are not interchangeable across different standards bodies. A garment that passes one specification may not satisfy another, and we flag those differences in each breakdown.
For operators, this means checking the label against the standard your site contract requires, not just the generic term printed on the packaging.
Our durability assessments are conducted on active sites in South Africa, including coastal humidity, highveld dust, and the temperature swings common to interior regions. Results reflect those conditions. Performance in significantly different climates or work environments may vary, and we note where a product is likely to underperform outside its intended use.
Laundering guidance in our reviews assumes industrial washing or the strict domestic cycle recommended by the manufacturer. We do not test against unauthorised chemical treatments or high-heat drying unless stated. Protective properties, especially flame resistance and reflective tape adhesion, degrade when care instructions are ignored.
Mention of a regulation, such as SANS standards, is informational. It does not constitute a legal opinion or guarantee that a garment will pass inspection on your particular site. The final responsibility rests with the employer to verify that the equipment matches the risk assessment and the applicable regional requirements.
